Hanbando Offshore Wind (HBOW) held a public hearing on September 10 regarding the ongoing Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Incheon Hanbando Offshore Wind Projects 1, 2, and 3 at the auditorium of the Fishing Vessel Safety Management Office of the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives in Incheon. Approximately 50 participants attended the event, including local fishers and representatives from environmental organizations.

During the hearing, the project overview, key findings from the EIA draft, proposed environmental mitigation measures, and plans for post-project environmental monitoring were presented.

Designated speakers shared their views on the project’s potential impact on fishing activities, the protection of marine ecosystems, the scope of environmental surveys, and the need for greater disclosure of information.

Participants requested measures to secure alternative fishing grounds and safeguard fishing rights in the event of a reduction in blue crab fishing areas. They also emphasized the importance of transparent disclosure of environmental assessment results and post-monitoring data, as along with the establishment of an ongoing communication framework with local communities. Attention was given to the need for a thorough review of potential impacts on marine ecosystems and fishing activities, and to ensure that the views of residents and fishers are adequately reflected throughout the project development process.

HBOW stated that it will carefully review the various opinions raised during the hearing as part of the preparation of the final EIA report. The company also noted that it plans to continue sharing key environmental assessment findings and project updates through communication channels such as local consultative bodies, while working together with stakeholders to identify mutually beneficial solutions. HBOW further emphasized its commitment to responsible project development through continuous and transparent engagement with local communities and stakeholders.

Meanwhile, HBOW is developing a bottom-fixed offshore wind farm with a total planned capacity of 1,125 MW in the Incheon Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Since obtaining its Electric Business License (EBL) last year, the company has been advancing key permitting processes, including the EIA.
